So, it’s been a big week in Apple-land with WWDC announcing quite a bit of interest to the Enterprise users of Apple.
The big one has to be the expected announcement of iOS 13 which we can expect to land after the summer break. For Enterprise Admins there a couple of items in particular to take note of.
The first is Apple have announced which devices will be compatible with iOS 13. In the iPhone world this is:
• iPhone XS
• iPhone XS Max
• iPhone XR
• iPhone X
• iPhone 8
• iPhone 8 Plus
• iPhone 7
• iPhone 7 Plus
• iPhone 6s
• iPhone 6s Plus
• iPhone SE
Note – there is no support for iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 5s. With Enterprises more like to sweat iPhone assets longer these days this needs to be checked. As stated before, iOS updates are a mixture of features and security fixes. You can’t afford to run out of date OS!
On the iPad front there is quite a bit of news also. As with iPhone, you need to check to make sure your devices are supported on iPadOS 13 – for completeness, the list of supported iPads will be:
• 12.9-inch iPad Pro
• 11-inch iPad Pro
• 10.5-inch iPad Pro
• 9.7-inch iPad Pro
• iPad (6th generation)
• iPad (5th generation)
• iPad mini (5th generation)
• iPad mini 4
• iPad Air (3rd generation)
• iPad Air 2
iPads have a habit of being sweated even longer than phones so make sure you check these also.
Eagle eyed readers will also note the change from a monolithic iOS for iPhone and iPad together. There will now be a new iPadOS with a host of new features aimed at making the iPad more of a productivity device…or in other words an Enterprise focused device! Watch this space to see what is possible with this exciting change…we will cover iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 much more in coming updates.
Until then get checking on your older devices…you have been warned.
