Welcome to Brown’s Bytes! Your weekly insight from Mobliciti’s CTO Andy Brown. Follow #brownsbytes

Welcome back… and a very Happy New Year to you all!
I will admit it has been a while since my last missive and I can only apologise to you for the gap in these… I do appreciate that these bytes are a highlight of the week for many(!)
So, I guess it’s a New Year Resolution for me to be better at finding time for Brown’s Bytes.
Of course, the reason for the gap has simply been a measure of how busy it has been in 2021 here at Mobliciti towers – which is a good thing of course!
So, Where To Start 2022 Then?
Well, we usually start by looking forward to what is coming down the tracks in the year ahead. As usual, there is a mix of the familiar and the new going on. I can’t do all of it justice in a single blog, but let’s start the year by highlighting areas to be thinking about:
This is an area that has been creeping up the IT agenda for some time now (and rightly so). From the discussions we’ve been having, it does appear that 2022 is going to be the year where it becomes a core consideration in all decision making – including IT.
The regular refresh cycles for Mobiles and Laptops are going to start being seen through a different lens and it will be fascinating to see how this is factored in – definitely an area we’ll be looking at more this year.
As mentioned previously, this is the project nobody wanted really, but we’ve got it anyway! Start planning… and linked to the above don’t expect to be able to run Win11 on all your existing kit.
Gartner coined the term SASE back in 2019. As with many things in the world of IT, the term has been going through the hype cycle since then, but 2022 is likely to be the year where the Security Service Edge really starts being planned for… the path to a Perimterless Security model is a step change and creating a suitable first step is an important deliverable this year.
We’ve been talking about Wi-Fi taking over from Wired for a loooong time now, but the shift to distributed working that the pandemic forced upon us has potentially created the conditions for this to finally happen. The way that office spaces are being used has changed…and Wi-Fi is going to be core to any office redesign.
It’s a constant requirement to keep on top of this…2022 could well be the year where travel really does start to return into the mix. Roaming = Bill shock could be back!
And everything else!
Of course, there’s the small matter of keeping all the existing processes running smoothly – not least continuing to deploy and refresh kit to your users wherever they may be.
Lots to look forward to!
