The Best Computer Apple Has Ever Made!

‘The Best Computer Apple Has Ever Made’, well at least that’s Time Magazine’s title for their iPad Pro Review. The sub heading continues – ‘It’s not just the best iPad Apple has ever released, it may replace your laptop’.
My blog today is not a review of the iPad Pro, there are already plenty online, it is to question whether it could seriously replace a laptop.
Since the very first iPad we’ve talked to customers about whether it could be a replacement for a laptop. However for many people this would never be the case, myself included.
Two weeks ago a friend of mine mentioned that he had bought an iPad Pro and the MacBook was on its way to eBay. I didn’t need much convincing and quickly ordered my new iPad Pro.
So what would it mean to the Enterprise if the iPad Pro and indeed Surface Pro tablets could satisfy the needs of most users?
- The end of domain connected devices and architecture
- The end of desktops and laptops
- The end of using virtual desktops
- An explosion in corporate mobile apps
- A single Mobile First architecture to deploy, secure and manage all devices
- Less mobile devices to buy and support
Surprisingly it looks like it’s not just my laptop which is staying in my bag, since my iPad Pro arrived I’ve realised that I haven’t used my iPad Mini either. This would mean less hardware and support, less software and application licences and less mobile SIM contracts to sign up to. Multiply it by hundreds or even thousands of devices and the savings for the Enterprise would be significant!
I have been hugely impressed with the iPad Pro and early indications are that it will provide me with the functionality I need in and out of work even with a couple of niggles which I’m sure will be addressed on future software releases.
In summary, the ‘Pro’ tablets might not be for everyone but the million dollar question is ‘will the release of the Pro impact your Mobile First strategy, and more importantly satisfy your user’s needs?’
