The 12th Annual Enterprise Mobility & Cloud Conference

VIEW 2022

09:00 - 14:45 | 22nd September
Landing Forty Two,
The Leadenhall, London

VIEW is back and it's bigger and better than ever!

VIEW returned for its 12th outing, at the iconic Leadenhall Building, delivering more content, more customer speakers and more predictions than ever before. Hosted at London’s highest event space, it updated and educated attendees about all things mobile, wireless, cloud and collaboration.

KEY TOPICS DISCUSSED

Brown's Bigger Byte

Andy Brown, Chief Technology Officer, Mobliciti
  • The launch of the iPhone 14 as a classic Apple unveiling that, even if the product itself is only an iterative upgrade, by introducing design features such as Dynamic Island it’ll make us all fall in line and say, ‘I want one!’
  • Apple remains an attractive choice for phones because of its consistency compared to the chaotic fragmentation of the Android world and attendant support challenges, even if Samsung continues to shine.
  • Apple’s real progress in the last year has been on MacBook laptops where the powerful-but-thrifty M2 processor has given the firm a lead on computing and battery life over the Wintel world.
  • Apple is piling on market share and becoming more and more attractive to enterprises.
  • In carriers, “bill shock is back”, watch out for tricks in the Ts and Cs and Brexit ensures roaming complexity is reigning for travellers and more home working meaning changes to the old,
    established usage patterns.
  • In Wi-Fi, the 6E release is taking us into an extended spectrum: an important uptick for workers in new look offices designed for flexible and nomadic employment.
  • The use of clouds is still morphing, getting identity management right will be key – there can be no “fit and forget” model. Businesses need to be aware of changes to clouds that impact APIs, security and configurations and not just expect cloud service providers to do it for them.
  • As we use mobile more, then they become more attractive threat surfaces to attackers, hence the rise and rise of zero-day exploits.
  • Patching and due diligence are mandatory

Building a Resilient Work From Anywhere Strategy

Ed Blake, Area Vice President UKI, Absolute
  • There’s a need to bring in more control and visibility to security operations, as BYOD, cloud services and hybrid working impact traditional security models and as attacks directly targeting endpoints escalate.
  • Many admit to lacking confidence in their current infrastructure.
  • Absolute is uniquely embedded in the computer BIOS firmware
  • It digs deep to track devices, VPNs and more and also provides the ability to remotely lock, encrypt and freeze systems, track data leaks and monitor the user’s digital experience.

The Era of Flexibility

Magnus Falk, CIO Advisor, Zoom
  • The extraordinary rise of the video conferencing giant during the pandemic has ushered in a new age of flexible working and people having agency into how, where and when they work.
  • The office is becoming a space to ideate and collaborate rather than a place to go to do back-to-ball calls, so tools have to evolve to support this adaptation.
  • Dispersed workforces will be a great level-setter and we have seen new fits for video in the form of IPO roadshows, personal shopping, remote education, healthcare diagnostics and beyond.
  • Zoom itself has evolved to offer signage, room booking, workspace reservations, contact centre offerings, transactions,
translations, donation pledges, sales and more third-party integrations. We can
now look to video to do things we never envisaged: even onboarding.

Empower IT & Security Operations to Deliver Better Business Outcomes

David Shepherd, VP EMEA, Ivanti
  • Ivanti is the amalgamation of many familiar brands from Heat Software to LANdesk and MobileIron, making it the great survivor of the device management space.
  • That space is growing even more in relevance as devices are scattered across homes, offices and other environments, making them harder to track and manage.
  • Ivanti helps to secure operations and avoid pricey, embarrassing breaches.
  • 30% of assets can be unaccounted for at any one time so IT needs to know where they are and even to “know what you don’t know”.
  • You can’t move to a zero-trust model without having a central point of control.
  • The latest versions of Ivanti’s stack add digital experience management, performance monitoring, location-awareness, user sentiment tracking and more.

Managing the Device Lifecycle for a Hybrid Workforce

Matt Atkinson, Head of Mobile Services, Mobliciti
  • Matt’s session advised on saving money and sustainability, advising delegates not to buy another device until they understand the impacts of that decision.
  • 40% of enterprise users don’t make calls or send SMS messages on their corporate device
  • 1% of users account for 30% cent of all data consumed.
  • Only by profiling user needs can the right decisions be made and can we avoid the wastage of underused devices and unnecessarily high bills.
  • “Treat everyone the same and you will get the wrong result,”
  • Avoid the temptation to give users the latest iPhone to appear super cool
  • Track usage patterns, consider unlimited contracts for super-users, and snap up call routing and e-SIMs to curb risks and let users switch happily between their own device’s data and that provided by corporate.

Apple for Enterprise

Suzan Sakarya, Senior Manager, Security Sales EMEIA, Jamf
  • Jamf has made its name managing Apple devices
  • With hybrid working and BYOD embedded and Apple outperforming rivals (and with more threats than ever aimed at the resurgent Apple platform, there is more need to manage the estates of systems made by the company.
  • Management and security are “better together”, and now, with Jamf having acquired Wandera, it offers management of hybrid PC/Mac estates too.
  • To protect against human error, and threats such as adware being used as conduits for malware and to ensure same-day support for Apple patches and updates, JAMF is in a unique position.

Fidelity International: Embracing the Modern Workplace

Duncan Welford, Director - Collaboration Technology & Ashley Knight, Fidelity Labs, Fidelity International
  • The Solar app makes it easier for staff and visitors to make use of office facilities and thus work more effectively.
  • The app provides a better employee and customer experience by making it simpler to book meeting rooms, access video conferencing services, access hot desks, see who is where, report issues, access wellbeing services and even find out more about art on display.
  • “Offices are evolving into places where people do specific tasks rather than just sit on calls.”
  • As well as greater satisfaction and productivity levels, Fidelity also benefits from being able to consolidate offices, operate on less power and gain useful insights into user behaviour.
  • Solar is being rolled out across Fidelity but is also looking to come to market as a commercial product available for third parties.

Can You Trust The Cloud With Your Sensitive Data?

Chris Taylor, Regional Sales Manager, Thales
  • Customers want to drive innovative services, retire legacy and cut costs but have to realise that they, not the cloud service provider, are ultimately responsible for their data.
  • Nation states, insiders, user error and other factors challenge governance and security models while the looming Schrems II case is evidence that regulators, lawmakers and data privacy advocates are still being aggressive.
  • Data sovereignty operational sovereignty and software sovereignty all remain of the utmost importance.
  • Technology can help to discover, control & protect and identity management will be key.
  • Software can help by automating risk levels and helping us to adhere to rules in a complex and ever-changing global environment.

Enhancing the Security of Office 365

Matt Irwin, Sales Director Northern Europe, Zimperium
  • Matt talked about enhancing the security of that modern critical application, Microsoft Office 365.
  • Attacks on the Microsoft stack are a concern, and we all need to be vigilant in our updating, patching and training.
  • By protecting against common vulnerabilities and exposures, companies can defend themselves, but they need to know, on its own, “MDM is not a security solution”.
  • Support for GCHQ’s Cyber Essentials Plus will also help to show a basic level of governance.
  • IT needs to protect broadly and deeply at the point of access to services.

Transforming Tax Advisory Work with AI Decision-Making

Stuart Walters, Chief Information Officer, BDO
  • BDO has transformed the way tax advisory work is done using AI/machine learning to automate business processes and decision-making.
  • BDO innovation labs’ ideation engine had created an opportunity to make significant changes, fast, such as altering the payday of employees and creating software that assesses a company’s chances of gaining R&D tax benefits.
  • BDO blends its own specialists with selected third parties. “We’re not a software house and I’m very keen we don’t become a software house.”

The AI-Driven Enterprise

Gaby Kroet, Area Vice President EMEA, Juniper driven by Mist AI
  • Showed how Juniper’s fortunes had risen since it acquired Mist, the AI network management company in 2019, compared to the network management arms of legacy players.
  • Mist AI is making waves because it has shown that it can quickly roll out solutions that help create massive declines in troublesome open tickets and accelerate network throughput vis it’s microservices-based offering.

The wrap up

Andy Brown, Chief Technology Officer, Mobliciti

Andy rounded the day off with some key takeaways:

  • Absolute is the cool tech most people haven’t heard of! And it brings Mobile ideas back to the laptop.
  • Zoom powered us through the pandemic and continues to do so into the Era of Flexibility.
  • The everywhere workplace is here and Ivanti is so much more than UEM.
  • You can’t manage what you can’t see…
  • Only buy what you need – usage has dramatically changed so find out what your users really want.
  • If you’re serious about Mac Management / Security then Jamf is the answer.
  • Solar – The new way of managing the office, putting mobile at the heart of an amazing new experience.
  • Digital Sovereignty is vital.
  • Mobile is a vital endpoint on Office 365 – secure it effectively.
  • AI driving everything from Business Change to Network Management.
